Methodology

The Valla Legal Fees Index reviews the published hourly rates of 167 UK law firms, collected between 3 and 15 July 2026. Where a firm publishes a range, we use the midpoint; the regional figure is the average (mean) of the firms in that region.

VAT: firms usually quote rates excluding VAT. Every figure on this page has been normalised to include 20% VAT, because that is what employees actually pay.
