Vento bands

This guide applies to Employment Law in England, Scotland and Wales.

Vento bands are the ranges of compensation that can be awarded in discrimination cases for injury to feelings. These ranges are determined by the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary in England and Wales and the Tribunals Judiciary in Scotland.

For claims presented on or after 6 April 2026, the Vento bands are:

  • Lower band: £1,300 to £12,600 for "less serious cases"
  • Middle band: £12,600 to £37,700 for "cases that do not merit an award in the upper band"
  • Upper band: £36,700 to 62,900 for "the most serious cases"

For the "most exceptional cases" compensation may exceed £62,900.

In England and Wales, awards made within each Vento band must include a mandatory 10% uplift. However, in Scotland this isn't mandatory. An Employment Tribunal can decide not to award the 10% uplift but must set out its reasons for reaching this conclusion.
